Material Planner

Purpose: A Tier 1 supplier to Daimler Chrysler in Belvidere, IL is looking for an experienced Material Planner. This position is on first shift and could be a temp-to-perm or Direct Placement depending on qualifications and the interview. Candidates must have experience with MRP and either the Automotive industry or a heavy manufacturing company.

DUTIES:
- Plan and prepare production schedules for manufacturing and ensure that products and parts are made efficiently and timely.
- Plan monthly production commitments including work-in-process to meet shipment dates.
-Plan sequence of operations
- Knowledge of the product from concept to finished product in order to set production at highest efficiency.

FUNCTIONS:
- Coordination with the sales, cost accounting, purchasing and manufacturing departments to develop sales forecasts (used to estimate how many items must be manufactured)
- Developing master schedules that establish time limits and sequences of manufacturing operations and provides proactive input to management, including marketing, sales, production, and engineering to reschedule in case of labor and material shortages, backlogs and other potential schedule interruptions.
- Identifying planning errors during production and recommends corrective action; maintains inventories of raw materials and finished products; recommends and plans operations rescheduling to process rush orders or to meet customer needs.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Pilot inventory and production control experience or training, particularly in a process controlled manufacturing operation.
- Prior experience in inventory control is preferred
- Ability to read, understand and follow written procedures
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Access.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Undergraduate Degree in business related field.
- Intense knowledge of MRP is important - working with scheduling
- Solid computer and analytical skills including MS Excel
- APICS Certification is a HUGE Plus!!
