Forecasting Analyst (Inventory Analyst / Demand Planner)

Houghton Mifflin is currently seeking a Forecaster (Inventory Analyst / Demand Planner) for its Secondary Textbook Division – McDougal Littell. The key objective for a Forecasting Analyst is to implement a methodical forecasting approach to help ensure product availability and minimize inventory exposure. Developing and implementing a proactive demand forecasting model and driving a structured approach in gathering data and formulating product forecasts will accomplish this goal. The Forcasting Analyst will work closely with Divisional Sales and Marketing to develop a rolling 12 to 18-month demand forecast at the SKU level using the APO DP forecasting system and proven techniques to enhance forecast accuracy and support the current supply chain initiatives.
The Forecasting Analyst will be responsible for forecasts of a particular discipline and will perform the following tasks successfully:
1. Participate in monthly consensus meetings.

Conduct monthly process resulting in consensus forecast for his/her discipline based on input from divisional stakeholders (Sales, Marketing, Editorial, Finance), adoption schedule, revenue potential and historical usage/trends.
Revise forecasts monthly based on actual usage, trends, wins/losses, new product introductions, and revised sales plans.
Advise Sales, Marketing and Business Units of problems and significant variances between existing forecasts and actual usage.
Pass consensus forecast to Buyer/Planner through APO DP. 2. Conduct continuous analysis of actual usage and develop sales trends as compared to forecasts.
Develop and fine tune statistical forecast models in APO.
Identify historical outliers using basic statistical methods.
Create and use tools that measure forecast accuracy and errors and take initiative to develop techniques to improve the forecasts.
Identify major forecasting issues for discussion and resolution.

3. Work with Inventory Analysts on obsolescence review.


Requirements

· Good understanding of forecast models

· Strong understanding of the Sales and Operations Process preferred but not necessary

· Ability to work under pressure Bachelor's degree required, emphasis in Math or Statistic preferred.
