Corporate Safety Director
General Summary
Directs safety function for Pepperidge Farm, Inc. Manufacturing plants, Sales Depots, Thrift Stores, and Corporate office, ensuring compliance to Federal and Company requirements and promoting employee Health and Safety.Principal Accountabilities
Develop Corporate safety strategy and manage $10 million Workers Compensation budget, leveraging internal and external resources to accomplish objectives and mitigate loss exposures. 20%
Identify loss trends and manage OSHA compliance efforts to ensure worker safety and reduce Company's Workers Compensation liability. - 20%
Manage Corporate Health & Safety Coordinator position, ensuring implementation of Corporate wellness programs, Executive Physicals, Workers Comp claims administration (Sales, Stores, Corporate, Norwalk plant claims). - 10%
Direct Workers Compensation claims administration process, directly managing Pepperidge Farm Claims Specialist position. Identify and ensure application of claims handling/settlement best practices. - 10%
Lead international and domestic safety audits at Campbell's, Pepperidge Farm, Godiva plants and supporting locations. - 10%
Develop and deliver Safety training to manufacturing, Corporate, Engineering, and Operations/HR Leadership teams. - 10%
Serve as liaison between Plant medical staff and Campbell's Corporate with respect to policy, procedures, wellness initiatives, compliance issues, personnel certifications (DOT, BAT, STT). - 5%
Serve on Campbell's Global Safety Leadership team, establishing global Corporate goals, strategies, initiatives; substitute for Global Safety Director when called upon to lead initiatives and safety audits, attend conferences, etc.. - 5%
Participate in trade association safety committee (American Bakers Association, Biscuit & Cracker Manufacturers Association). - 5%
Foster professional development of plant safety and health care professionals. - 5%.
Job Complexity
Resolve OSHA compliance issues, consult experts as needed, attend meetings with OSHA and negotiate on the Company's behalf in order to mitigate exposures and prevent and/or reduce citations and penalties associated with non-compliance (example, attend Informal Conferences with OSHA and plant representatives, negotiating to reduce severity of violations and associated penalties. Negotiate abatement period to benefit the Company).
Resolve service issues involving Travelers, FM Global, and other insurers. Hold "good will" meetings between plant and Travelers representatives to air issues and clarify roles, responsibilities, expected outcomes, performance measurements.
Resolve record ability issues, investigating Code of Federal Regulations, consulting experts, research OSHA letters of interpretation, to ensure compliance with OSHA recordkeeping requirements.
REQUIREMENTS
Education & Experience
Minimum education required: BS
Education preferred: Masters
Minimum Experience: 5-8 YearsQualifications
Knowledge of Federal and state-specific OSHA regulations.
Familiarity with best practices in loss prevention, post-injury response, claims management.
Ability to interract with all levels of the company, from hourly production workers to Corporate executives.
Ability to work effectively with the Campbell's matrix organization, both domestically and internationally.
