Sr. Health and Safety Specialist
Company: North America Mining Job Function: Health Job Description: Major Responsibilities Under general supervision, identifies, reports and recommends corrective action for workplace safety issues including unsafe conditions and behaviors. Trains others in health and safety.1. Assists in conducting detailed safety assessments in the field, analyses of occupational injuries, facility design, equipment and material, audits, incident investigations.
2. Develops and recommends appropriate remedial action in response to unsafe conditions or behavior.
3. Assists site management in complying with PDC, PDMC, OSHA, MHSA and other regulations and standards.
4. Maintains a current knowledge of PDC, PDMC, OSHA, MHSA and other regulations and standards.
5. Prepares appropriate reports and presentations for management. Develops policies and procedures for management approval.
6. Performs other duties as required.Minimum Requirements Bachelors Degree in Safety Engineering, Industrial Health or closely related field or equivalent. Five years experience in health and safety in mining, construction, or manufacturing. Five years detailed assessments, analyses of occupational injuries, facility design, equipment and material, audits, and incident investigations. Five years ensuring compliance of applicable health and safety federal, state and local laws, ordinances, statutes, regulations, rules, policies and procedures. Five year demonstrated ability and experience in writing a variety of business documents including policies and technical reports.
Five years experience performing sophisticated incident investigation, appropriate remedial actions and maintaining inspection records. Demonstrated skills in communication and developing interpersonal relationships. Five years developing training programs and maintaining awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions in an industrial setting. Five years demonstrating safe practices, recognizing and eliminating hazards and communicating the results. Five years collaborating with site management and mainting current knowledge of PDC, PDMC, OSHA, MHSA, and other regulations and standards.Preferred Qualifications Professional certification preferred.
Criteria/Conditions(specific background and skills) Work is performed in a mine or plant environment which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see. Available to be on-call regularly.
Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy to heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) during the course of the workday.
Personal protective equipment is required on a regular basis, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, respirator, steel toed boots, protective clothing, gloves and other protective equipment as required.~cb~
