Health and Safety Specialist

Company: North America Mining Job Function: Health Job Description: Major Responsibilities Works under general supervision. Plays a supporting role to senior safety and industrial hygiene staff. Assists others in developing, implementing and evaluating procedures and programs to assure progress toward Zero & Beyond. Sufficiently knowledgeable to report unsafe and unhealthy conditions and behaviors to staff and assists in the remediation of the problem. Participates with others in complying with safety standards in accordance with PDC, PDMC, OSHA, MSHA, State Mine Inspector. Assist in compiling, verifying and correlating data relating to occupational and environmental health issues. Assists in the conduct of basic trend analysis, audits, incident investigations of events, operational procedures, facility designs, equipment and materials. Assists others in the preparation of studies, reports and other tasks as assigned. Assists others in the development and delivery of employee education and training, emergency preparedness and quality assurance systems. Compiles and analyzes data in compliance with current regulations and makes appropriate recommendations to prevent reoccurrence.
Minimum Requirements AA degree in Health and Safety or related field plus 5 years work experience or BS degree in Health & Safety or related field plus 3 yrs experience.

Demonstrated commitment to Safety and Health
Five years experience in mining or heavy industry
Self-motivated and the ability to function in a team environment
Strong oral and written communication skills
Training skills and experience
Computer literacy in Microsoft Office
The ability to work effectively and cooperatively with management, employees, teams, and government agencies with a focus on internal customer service
Internal candidates must be eligible for transfer per the Guiding PrinciplesPreferred Qualifications BS Degree in Health & Safety or related field plus 3 yrs. work exp.
CSP, CIH, or CMSP certification~cb~
