Landscape Maintenance Superintendent

The City of Irvine Public Works Department seeks to fill a key leadership position managing the Landscape Maintenance Division. This Division includes neighborhood and community parks, athletics and sports fields, open space and right-of-way, Urban Forest, and streetscapes.

The Landscape Maintenance Superintendent plans, organizes, assigns, directs and reviews landscape maintenance activities as well as manages related administrative functions including purchasing, budgeting and long-range planning for the City of Irvine Public Works Department.

The Landscape Maintenance Superintendent manages a budget of $12.7 million as well as plans and directs a staff of 27 full time employees. As such, strong leadership skills as well as the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing are essential.

This position requires a strategic thinker with administrative strengths who can facilitate collaboration as well as creative, yet practical solutions to long-term challenges. Community astute leadership, business expertise as well as proficiency in available technology are keys to success in this assignment.

REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Park Administration, Horticulture or related field and six years increasingly responsible experience, with two of these years supervising employees, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities. Possession of a valid California driver's license required. We are also looking for individuals whose backgrounds and experience indicates the ability to:
-Plan and direct staff. Evaluate operations and activities. Review equipment needs.
-Develops policies and procedures.
-Research, prepare and present annual budget. Monitor, justify and authorize expenses. Manage revenue collection.
-Conduct research, analyze data and prepare recommendations regarding programs, projects and activities. Research, write and present technical reports. Prepare and present oral and written reports.
-Provide technical assistance to other City departments and staff. Participate in development and capital improvement plan reviews.
-Assign, evaluate and discipline subordinate staff. Reviews work and prepare employee performance evaluations. Review and approve performance evaluations prepared by others.
-Prepare and review plans and specifications. Prepare and administer contracts for services. Review bids and recommend awards for appraisals and public works projects.
-Direct, inspect, and participate in field operations. Respond to emergencies.
-Meet with citizen committees and groups. Investigate citizen complaints and take appropriate action.
-Determine service delivery options.
-Research, write and submit grant applications. Administer grants and monitor grant recordkeeping tasks.
-Act as a liaison between City management and staff.
