Maintenance Manager

Job Summary

Responsible for planning, organizing and directing all maintenance activities associated with Horizon Lines capital investment in the Port of Anchorage. This includes both administrative and technical management. Dimensions: $7 Million Expense Budget Supervises: 33 Non-exempt Mechanics/Oilers
Job Responsibilities Maintain company assets in a manner that ensures corporate standards of quality and safety are maintained and productivity and EFO is maximized. Ensure the workforce is utilized in a harmonious labor climate to promote teamwork and productivity. Administer labor contract in a fair and consistent manner. Provide education and training designed to upgrade the skills and abilities for the labor force. Develop workforce assignments that meet the requirements of the facility while working within the parameters of the operating budget, ensuring that operational needs for equipment is a high priority. Ensure that all structured programs and preventative maintenance schedules are achieved on time and within budget and properly tracked in the corporate maintenance “IT” system. Develop, implement and maintain comprehensive Garage Safety Program, which reduces employee’s exposure to injury and take corrective action when required. Must participate on the Company Safety Committee. Promote communication within the department and throughout the facility that positively contributes to the Company goal of meeting customer requirements – both internally and externally. Ensure expenses are monitored daily, weekly and monthly to provide cost-efficient operation as well as making any modifications necessary to operate the garage within budget.
Job Requirements Planning/Organizing: Develop strategy, sets priorities, and develops course of action to achieve objectives and results. Anticipates needs, plan schedules and handles multiple tasks and projects. Structure tasks and objectives, set priorities efficiently, design and execute administrative systems. Prioritize and coordinate tasks to facilitate a smooth, timely and productive workflow.Technical/Function: Five (5) years experience in container/chassis and power repair or equivalent port experience. Knowledge of Labor Contract Administration.Communication: Effective oral and written communication and listening ability. Strive to promote teamwork, productivity and a harmonious labor environment.Adaptability: Ability to change old procedures to take advantage of new technology. Must maintain flexibility to meet operational requirements on time.Interpersonal/Decision Making: Ability to work with internal and external customers and vendors. Analyze problems: provide sound and concise decisions and provide alternativesTeam Building: Guides and inspires others to accomplish goals: clearly defines requirements and encourages people to meet those requirements. Encourages empowerment of all associates.
