Human Resource Director - HQ
The Headquarters Human Resources Director is responsible for the overall associate relations activities for the OfficeMax headquarters organization. Responsibilities include quality of work life, salary administration, staffing, equal employment opportunity, safety and workers’ compensation, HR related training and employee relations practices and policies. Represents OfficeMax on a variety of Corporate HR task forces, projects and leadership initiatives.
Position ResponsibilitiesOrganization Planning and Development: Continuously review business structure to optimize productivity, oversee management planning process, and ensure appropriate organization depth. Associate Selection: Serves as a consultant in the selection process of senior level positions across the organization. Ensures the Leadership Planning process and Affirmative Action commitments are an integral part of these strategies. Associate and Management Development: Direct OfficeMax development processes and strategies. Manage staff focusing in these areas. The staff reporting to the Director- design, create and deliver HR related (i.e., EEO, diversity, manager & supervisor training, OfficeMax University, leadership development, etc.) development programs for all levels of associates. Compensation and Benefits: Provides advice to ensure fairness and equity across organization. Works with the Compensation and Benefit teams to ensure compensation and benefits programs are fair and market competitive EEO: Working in conjunction with the Director of EEO and the Legal Department during EEOC charges of discrimination. Reinforces organization’s needs to have strong plans for hiring and promoting minorities as required. Associate Relations: Oversees OfficeMax Policy and Procedure implementation, and application such as: Your Time Off; Short-Term Disability; FMLA/ADA compliance; Return-to-Work; Safety Reporting Systems; relocation, etc. Safety/Workers Compensation: Assists corporate staff with workers compensation claims and ensures compliance with OSHA regulations and with administration of company wide safety objectives for the corporate headquarters. Supervisory Responsibilities: Manages HR Generalists and Group Time Keeper for headquarters. Responsible for recruiting and training when there is an open HR Generalist or GTK position. Develop work assignments, review work performed, approve vacation/leaves, conduct performance reviews, assist in performance reviews, recommend salary actions, take direct disciplinary action when necessary, and recommend disciplinary action when necessary. Internal contacts include: Staff Managers, Directors and Business Unit Leaders; OfficeMax Leaders, department managers and legal staff. Acts a member of OfficeMax’s HR Leadership Team. External contacts include: External legal counsel for OfficeMax and associates; representatives from workers’ comp and unemployment insurance carriers if need be; federal and state officials in EEOC, OFCCP, DOL, human rights and civil litigation matters as need be. Quantitative Dimensions
The Director, Human Resources makes substantial decisions which impact employee, employment and pay decisions. Human Resources Director provides counsel, advise and approval on complex EEO discrimination charges to Region HR Managers. REQUIREMENTS
College degree or equivalent experience 15 years of generalist human resources experience with background in employment law, organization design, EEO, compensation and benefits administration, labor, policy design and administration. Must be accountable, possess mediation skills, and excellent communication and presentation skills.
