Description
The Director of Underwriting will manage, maintain, monitor and continue to build the established Workers’ Compensation Underwriting Department for Applied Underwriters. This includes responsibility for all pricing, renewal, compliance and personnel issues.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Manage pricing of mono-line workers’ compensation business.
Manage renewal pricing responsibilities and monitor performance of existing book of business.
Assist with development of rating methodologies and product development.
Assist with Bureau and NCCI underwriting compliance issues.
Manage a group of 5-10 salaried and non-exempt employees including direct supervision, hiring & termination, and disciplinary issues.
Train, mentor, lead and develop underwriters.
Manipulate and work with spreadsheets to gather and query data needed for risk analysis
Maintain a positive working relationship between business development, underwriting, and actuary departments.
Report business progress to senior management.
REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications & Requirements

MUST have 5-10+ years experience in workers’ compensation underwriting or related insurance experience with a major insurance carrier.
MUST have 3+ years experience managing and mentoring in a corporate environment.
Experience with loss sensitive plans/retrospective ratings.
Bachelor’s degree or above in applied statistics, actuarial sciences, finance, accounting, mathematics, economics or other related field required.
Fellow or Associate actuarial exams completed or in progress strongly preferred
Above average oral and written communication skills.
Unusually strong attention to detail and follow through.
Strong proficiency required in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and Internet Explorer.
