Director of Diversity & EEO
The Director of Diversity & EEO is responsible for the strategic direction, development, implementation, communication and on-going administration of EEO/AA policies, programs and systems and workplace diversity objectives. Works closely with senior management, HR business partners, location management and government agencies to assure all locations are in full compliance with all EEO/AA legal requirements (Title VII, Executive Order 11246, ADA, ADEA and various civil rights regulations in Federal, State and local jurisdiction) and support workplace diversity objectives.
Position ResponsibilitiesAs the subject matter expert in the area of EEO/AA and compliance, influence senior management, HR business partners and location management to manage the company's employment-related programs and practices to protect OfficeMax’s status as a federal contractor. Provide strategic direction for the formulation and administration of the company's affirmative action, equal employment opportunity policies, programs and goals. Respond to requests, inquiries, and audits from governmental agencies concerning programs, including statistical data, and the Corporation's commitment to EEO/AAP. Act as company spokesperson during compliance reviews, audits or discrimination charges as necessary. Constantly review EEO/AAP programs to ensure they are current and in full compliance with all regulatory requirements. Manage the function corporate-wide and provide accountability systems. Develop management reports and feedback systems. Facilitate and monitor all discrimination charges and settlements while maintaining up to date detail data systems. Serve as a resource in the development of training in managing diversity and in the integration of diversity into management training and the selection process. Evaluates all aspects of the organization's employment practices, including hiring, development, promotion, and retention data, to assess workforce composition and identify areas where greater diversity efforts may be beneficial. Monitor all external and company activities related to increasing and maintaining diversity in the workspace. Supports the delivery of individual, team and organizational needs assessment in the area of diversity awareness. Acts as a resource, both internal and external to the organization, on diversity issues.Provide business units with the knowledge and skills to effectively develop, maintain, update and monitor location's AAP in addition to being capable of facilitating on-site compliance reviews. Develop and maintain the Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action strategy for OMX. Actively involve HR business partners and senior management in the development of the strategies to ensure the EEO initiatives support the company's business strategies and objectives. Represents the company at associations and public functions regarding Equal Employment and Affirmative Action.Receives general guidance from the Sr. Director of HQ HR, Staffing and Diversity. Makes broad, independent decisions on strategic direction, development, implementation, and communication for EEO/AA and diversity policies, programs and objectives. Project orientation includes developing and designing programs to enhance and drive our EEO and diversity initiatives. Internal contacts include: Executive officers, senior management, managers, legal department, supervisors and OMX associates at all levels to provide counseling, training and leadership as it pertains to EEO and AA. External contacts include: Government officials, community leaders, compliance agency officials (federal, state and local), mediators, outside attorneys, trade organizations, non-profit organizations including schools, universities and their faculties and students (applicants). REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field preferred, or equivalent experience 10 years experience in AA/EEO, including AAP analysis and writing, compliance reviews, EEO reporting and audit investigations Through knowledge and understanding of legal requirements of Title VII, Executive Order 11246, ADA, ADEA and various civil rights acts, which include government and compliance agencies processes Travel up to 50% required Position requires change agent capable of influencing others Must present a positive professional image of the Company while conveying a sense of confidence and poise Strong project management skills Excellent conflict resolution capability Excellent written and verbal communication skills Must be PC proficient
