Licensed Psychiatric Technician-Adult Open Unit

The Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) provides specialized care for the optimal recovery and rehabilitation of mentally ill patients as guided by the nursing care plan, under the supervision of the Nurse Manager or designated RN. REQUIREMENTS


Education: Graduate of an accredited Psychiatric Technician Program of otherwise qualified for California licensure as a Psychiatric Technician. Must possess and maintain California licensure as a Psychiatric Technician/Licensed Vocational Nurse.



Experience: Experience in psychiatric nursing, preferably in an inpatient setting.



Experience working with all age populations is required. Demonstrates experience utilizing effective interpersonal communications, organizational and priority setting skills. Demonstrates ability to plan, organize and support implementation of a patient focused program in a healthcare setting.



Knowledge: Must pass a written exam covering general and psychotropic medication administration. Must understand psychiatric diagnoses and interventions. A working knowledge of hospital nursing and standards of patient care is required.



Special Skills/Equipment: Demonstrate ability to function as an effective member of a team, administer medications and intervene in crisis situations. Ability to manage multiple priorities, relate positively to customers inside and external to Sutter Center for Psychiatry. Conceptual, analytical and problem solving skills in a complex environment are required. Tact, diplomacy and the ability to work with individuals on all levels of hospital and medical staff organization. Ability to work with confidential information. Leadership and team skills that enable working cooperatively. Work environment includes frequent interruptions. Must be available to flex hours in accordance with department needs, including, but not limited to other shifts.
