The Director of Clinical Services acts on behalf of the Executive Director in their absence. The Director of Clinical Services is the leader of the Patient Care Team(s) and the member of the team whose function is to supervise, evaluate and coordinate the various component members of the interdisciplinary team, assure continuity of care from admission to discharge or transfer to bereavement.

1. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
When assigned by the Executive Director, may hire, orient, supervise, train and evaluate the performance of the team/potential team members.
Directs all patient care services for the team(s), including volunteer and bereavement, and ensures that services are rendered as integrated components of the Interdisciplinary plan of care.
Assures compliance with the policies and procedures of the hospice as well as regulatory and statutory requirements in the patient care area.
Assures that the professional standards of community nursing practices are maintained by all nurses providing care.
Assists in maintaining vendor contracts and assists in annual vendor evaluations.
Implements Quality Improvement policies and oversees routine evaluations of clinical records.
Reviews information on all pending patient admissions, all new admissions and live discharges to assure criteria are met.
Manages team schedule.
Acts as resource and mentor for staff.
Communicates with clinical staff regularly / effectively regarding organizational changes and updates, practice expectations and other matters of importance.
Creates an atmosphere which facilitates professional growth of staff.

2. QUALITY IMPROVEMENT/REGULATORY COMPLIANCE
Monitors clinical records and all team activities to ensure that they are accurate, complete and meet required standards in accordance with policy.
Performs utilization review of continuous care and inpatient levels of care for all patients on the team.
Assists with surveys and requests from regulatory bodies and intermediaries.
Performs chart reviews routinely to assure there is evidence that quality care is being delivered.
Continually assess hospice services, patient outcomes, family / patient satisfaction, cost of services, LOS and operational effectiveness to ensure optimal care delivery.
3. CUSTOMER SERVICE/SALES/MARKETING
Assures that problems/grievances/service failures experienced by individual patients/families or referral sources are addressed with team members and vendors to ensure they are resolved promptly and satisfactorily.
4. COST CONTAINMENT
Verifies/approves admitting IPOC diagnosis, treatments, staffing and supplies.
Monitors utilization of resources by every patient to assure cost effective delivery of services.
Approves all bills and invoices related to patient care services under the supervision of the Executive Director.
Periodically evaluates arrangements with contracted entities (nursing facilities, DME, pharmacy, etc) to ensure efficient, cost effective and quality provision of services.
5. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPEMENT
Attends in-services, education seminars and workshops approved by the Executive Director.
Develops and achieves professional growth goals and objectives.
Participates as a mentor of newly hired employees.

Job Requirements:

Reliable transportation with appropriate license and insurance coverage.
3 years hospice leadership and management experience.
Registered Nurse in the state of hospice
Bachelors Degree in nursing; masters' degree in nursing or health administration preferred.
Strong leadership and management experience in effective team building.
