Public Affairs Specialist

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited
Assist Public Affairs Director in administration of Vons Division Public Affairs programs.
Provide periodic support to Director, Government Relations as directed in identified tasks related to company government affairs programs.
Grand Openings – draft press release, write agenda, write store manager talking points, and oversee other aspects of Grand Openings.
Writing of various internal communications pieces including Vons Ink, Vons employee newsletter.
Assist in preparing news releases and press kits.
Media Support – Assist Director in handling media inquiries on wide range of sensitive issues. Primary contact in Director’s absence.
Represent Vons at civic events and community functions.
Assist store managers when support and advice is needed on such issues as fundraising, donations, solicitation, etc.
REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications: The following are preferred or desired unless specifically stated:
BS/BA degree in public relations and/or communication.
2-3 years experience in public affairs, and corporate foundation communications.
Experience organizing and implementing large-scale community relations or corporate foundation activities and programs.
Excellent communication skills.
Strong writing and public speaking ability.
Highly motivated; able to work independently and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Desktop publishing skills required; knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Quark Express required.
