Sr. Systems Administrator
SPECIFIC JOB DESCRIPTION: Bachelors degree from an accredited college in related discipline with 14 years of professional systems administration experience with 10 or more of these years of professional High Performance Computing (HPC) experience. Comprehensive knowledge of IBM RS/6000 SP5 and SP4 systems, SUN ENTERPRISE (F12000/F15000), hierarchical storage architectures and their operating systems is required.
Must have demonstrated expertise in Information Technology-Systems Administration, Operating Systems and their infrastructure in an HPC envrionment: networking, systems security, computer operations, storage technology and retrieval systems. Must have complete understanding and wide application of the technical principles, theories and concepts, in the UNIX and LINUX systems administration field with general knowledge of related disciplines.
Excellent customer/user interaction and verbal/written skills will be necessary to successfully address the assignments for this position.
This posting is for a position in Mississippi to support the NAVOCEANO High Performance Computing Center, one of the DOD Major Shared Resource Center facilities.
Candidate must have or be able to acquire a secret level security clearance.
Specific responsibilities of this position are:
The incumbent for this position will be responsible for UNIX/LINUX system administration, performance tuning, security administration, systems software support, and technology assessments related to improved system software or architecture capability for a high performance computing center. Will function as lead for systems administration personnel and 2+ years of experience as a lead is required. Responsible for systems enhancement, including incremental design/functional element configuration, interfaces, coordination, and prototyping. Will be responsible to perform software installation and configuration of all software in the MSRC and
maintain systems availability in accordance with established policies, procedures and service level agreements. Selected candidate will provide daily work status to management and the government customer, to include activity reports, problem reports, aand other tasks as required. Will be responsible to gather automated system metrics to validate system use and availability. Reports to the LMSO NAVO MSRC Systems and Network Engineering Manager.

STANDARD JOB DESCRIPTION: Maintains smooth operation of multi-user computer systems, including coordination with network
administrators. Duties may include setting up administrator and service accounts, maintaining system documentation, tuning system performance, installing system wide software and allocate mass storage space. Interacts with users and evaluates vendor products. Makes recommendations to purchase hardware and software, coordinates installation and provides backup recovery. Develops and monitors policies and standards for allocation related to the use of computing resources.
