As part of the Global Government Affairs (GGA) organization, this individual will work with the Washington, DC-based coverage and reimbursement team to support reimbursement issues relating to Amgen's nephrology brands. This individual will work with others to conduct research and analysis for all national Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement-related factors of secure appropriate patient access to Amgen's nephrology portfolio. This position requires close coordination with internal Amgen groups (i.e., GGA/Federal Affairs, GGA/Ally Development, the NBU, Health Economics, Medical Affairs, Legal and others).
Specifically, the position involves:
Assessing national policies and legislation information, identifying important coverage and reimbursement issues and opportunities.
Consistently monitoring Medicaid and Medicaid communications on coverage, coding and payment related to nephrology and dialysis reimbursement
Proactively identifying key reimbursement issues likely to affect Amgen's nephrology brands.
Determining strategic implications of various reimbursement changes to Amgen business.
In conjunction with other GGA groups, developing influencing plan to determine positions of key reimbursement stakeholders (i.e., CMS, patient and provider groups, other stakeholders).
Communicating key reimbursement issues and opportunities to the NBU and other internal groups.
REQUIREMENTS
* 3+ years of policy experience in Medicare, gained at CMS or another federal agency in a healthcare role, a health consulting company as a reimbursement expert, or as an internal reimbursement expert for a pharmaceutical or biotech company.
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of payer policies on payment for Medicare Part B covered drugs and biologicals. Demonstrated understanding of Medicare coding, coverage, and reimbursement for dialysis services preferred.
Previous experience in analyzing and summarizing complex statutory, regulatory, and sub-regulatory documents in a self-directed manner.
Understanding of national legislative, Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer initiatives affecting reimbursement of pharmaceutical and biotechnology products.
Ability to work both independently as a self-motivator as well as in a matrix organization.
Experience in cross-functional project management.
Proven communication skills required, including listening, written and verbal and presentation.
Bachelors, Masters, or Law degree is required. Prefer degrees in health policy or healthcare-related discipline.
