Science and Engineering Technical Assistant

Background
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is one of the nation’s most important research organizations. DARPA Program Managers run large-scale research programs in the most critical areas, overseeing academic and industrial performers to produce new technology for the national needs. The Information Processing Technology Office (IPTO) of DARPA concentrates on computer science research and has a strong emphasis on Artificial Intelligence, representation/reasoning, and machine learning systems.



Job Summary
The ideal candidate will have a background in modeling and simulation, systems engineering, and artificial intelligence as well as an understanding of the way things are done at DARPA. The candidate will work both independently and collaboratively to help set and refine agendas, to monitor progress of programs, and to help resolve problems as they arise.



Position Duties (partial)

· Perform as a staff advisor and consultant in an AI related technical specialty.

· Develop and evaluate plans and criteria for a variety of projects and activities

· Review research proposals and assess the feasibility and soundness of proposed plans.

· Perform technology assessments, including conducing detailed market analysis to identify commercial investments in technology, assess/analyze technology assimilation rates, and investigate/determine commercial industry research emerging needs and trends

· Organize workshops, meetings, and panels of industry experts to exchange ideas and develop long-term program and transition plans

· Direct and coordinate technical information services, technical illustrations and graphical productions. REQUIREMENTS


The ideal Candidate would:

** Have graduate experience in Artificial Intelligence research. (Ph.D. preferred)

** Have experience that would support ability to manage groups of researcher in
order to generate specific deliverables

** Have recent DARPA SETA experience

** Produce well-organized, high-quality, and concise reports and briefings.

** Be a self-starter and work comfortably in undirected and ambiguous situations

** Be a superb communicator and able to quickly and effectively analyze and summarize the intellectual content of scientific and technological information.

** Make decisions independently on research problems and methods.

** Be knowledgeable at programmatic details (execution rates, etc.)

** Be proficient in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Project.

** Candidate must be a US Citizen; a higher level clearance is preferred.
