OPERATIONS AND TECHNOLOGY UNIT DESCRIPTION:
The SBS Operations and Technology Unit supports the business strategy and objectives of all of the Agency’s Program Divisions and its internal Support Units. The Unit is focused on improving customer service delivery and increasing performance and output. The Unit seeks economies of scale and scope across the Divisions of the Agency and where possible, across Agencies inside of City Government – seeking better, smarter and more effective ways of serving customers and supporting the administration’s economic development strategy.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Database Administrator will be an integral part of the applications development team in the Operations and Technology Unit to help identify business requirements, develop information models and perform data analysis. The Unit is in the process of building a proactive and customer-focused model for supporting end-user needs and Agency Program Division objectives. The candidate has to demonstrate prior experience developing enterprise information models. The candidate needs to be self-directed, have good time management skills and enjoy a fast-paced, multi-project environment. Attention to detail, precision solution crafting and ability to communicate and work equally well with software engineers and business users / executives is required. Previous experience with .NET and ColdFusion projects helpful.
Responsibilities Include:
-Create, maintain, modify, and optimize SQL Server databases
-Collaborate with applications developers on data modeling, and E-R diagrams
-Design advanced queries, stored procedures, triggers, scripts
-Lead data conversion and data migration projects
-Manage database performance, capacity, replication, backup and security
-Work with other City agencies on special data projects
-Assist business analysts and end-users with reporting needs
REQUIREMENTS
REQUIREMENTS:
-MCDBA - Microsoft Certified Database Administrator for MS- SQL Server 2000
-BS/MS in Computer Science preferred
-At least 3 years experience with MS SQL Server 2000
-Experience designing and implementing new databases
-Experience writing, analyzing and optimizing queries and stored procedures
-Broad understanding of software development and web technologies
-Highly proficient report writer in MS-Office Access, MS Excel and Crystal Reports,
-Perform multiple projects in small teams
-Creative problem solving
-Excellent communication and presentation skills
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Professional/vendor certification in Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA). In addition, all candidates must have the following:
1.A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, and two years of satisfactory full-time (not classroom based) experience in database administration planning, design, configuration, installation, troubleshooting, integration, performance monitoring, maintenance, enhancement, and security management; or
2.A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six years of satisfactory full-time (not classroom based) information technology experience of which at least 2 years must have been as described in “1” above; or
3.A master’s degree in computer science or a related filed from an accredited college may substitute for one year of experience. However, all candidates must have at least one year of satisfactory full-time (not classroom based) information technology experience as described in “1” above.
