Research Scientist

Position Summary

Our Medical Research and Evaluation Facility (MREF) specializes in the design and execution of research to develop countermeasures against highly toxic materials and pathogenic microorganisms for government and non-government organizations. The MREF is seeking a Research Scientist for the West Jefferson facility.

Compensation will be based on relevant qualifications and experience. Relocation support is available.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

- Serve as Study Director to design, execute, and oversee studies involving pathogenic microorganisms in animal model systems in a BSL-3 containment laboratory
Write SOPs, Forms, Methods, Procedures, Protocols, Reports
Review, analyze, and interpret data generated using animal studies
Computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook)
Present seminars and presentations to clients
Prepare abstracts, posters, and manuscripts for scientific meetings and publication
Interact with clients regarding work performed
Design, implement, and validate new microbiological and immunological assays
Train and oversee research technicians in new techniques and methods
REQUIREMENTS


Basic Qualifications

Applicant must be a US citizen and be able to obtain and maintain a DOJ clearance and a DoD Security Clearance. Applicant must be willing to be immunized with IND and/or licensed vaccines against laboratory pathogens in use in the BL-3 laboratory (currently anthrax, Smallpox, Venezuelan equine encephalitis, and botulism).

Employment is contingent on all of the above, and in addition, upon passing a physical examination to work in a BL-3 containment laboratory, medical clearance to wear a respirator, and drug screening.

Minimum Qualifications

PhD in microbiology/virology or immunology. Preference will be given to candidates that have worked with human or animal pathogens in a containment laboratory and experience using animal models of human disease. Experience and/or training in Good Laboratory Practices is also highly desirable.
