Public Relations Assistant

The City of New York Human Resources Administration (HRA), Office of Public Information and Communications (OPIC), is seeking a Public Relations Assistant to perform a wide-ranging variety of professional and para-professional tasks to support the Deputy Commissioner for OPIC and the Press Secretary. Functions may include assisting with drafting and editing press releases, talking points, and informational materials; assisting in the selection and distribution of daily news clippings; scheduling and monitoring press interviews; organizing media events; conducting project-based research and writing activities; maintaining the office production calendar; maintaining liaison with HRA programs to keep informed of their activities for public informational purposes; providing administrative assistance and performing general office management functions including answering telephone inquiries, ordering supplies and equipment, photocopying, scanning, and maintaining office inventory; creating and maintaining a filing system and mailing lists.
REQUIREMENTS
Qualification Requirements:
A master’s degree in journalism or public relations from an accredited college; or a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in public relations, journalism or advertising; or an associate degree or completion of 60 credits from an accredited college and two years of full-time satisfactory experience in public relations, journalism or advertising; or education and/or experience equivalent to the requirements listed above. However, all candidates must have at least 60 credits from an accredited college.

Preference will be given to candidates with strong writing and computer skills, and recent public relations, press or communications experience.

New York City residency is required within 90 days of appointment.
