Requirements to Test:
20 years old, High School diploma or GED, No felony convictions, must meet Arizona P.O.S.T. standards, US Citizen, Good driving record, sound mental and physical health, No dishonorable discharge if served in the United States Armed Forces. Police Officer Recruits attend a 16 week police academy and upon completion, they are sworn in as police officers and begin their patrol duties as a police officer in Phoenix. Police Officers are required to complete a 12 week Field Training period where they are trained by a Senior Police Officer while on patrol.

Regarding testing:
There is no study guide for the City of Phoenix Police Recruit Test. The written test consists of four parts: memory retention, sentence structure, reading comprehension, and a general survey. Some applicants have said that the ARCO study guide for Law Enforcement (available at bookstores and libraries) has helped them. However, we do NOT endorse the use of any study guide and this information is given out only as an aide to those who solicit information regarding available resources.

All Police Officer Recruit applicants who pass the written exam will be invited to a physical agility exam. Physical agility exams are administered at the Arizona Law Enforcement Academy located at 10001 S. 15th Ave, in Phoenix. Please enter the academy by traveling south on15th Avenue from Dobbins Rd.
