POLICE RECRUIT

Upon completion of the Long Beach Police Department’s training academy, candidates are promoted to the position of Police Officer. The salary range for Police Officer is $4,357.00 to $5,396.00 monthly.

Under immediate supervision in a non-sworn training capacity, develops minimum qualifications required for a career in police service; receives Academy instruction in Police Department policies and procedures, weaponless defense, criminal and civil law, physical fitness techniques, use of firearms, arrest procedures, community relations, operation of emergency vehicles and other mandated courses; observes sworn police personnel in the processing of arrestees, including booking, fingerprinting, custody and control; may perform non-sworn police support functions, such as traffic and crowd control as directed during training process.
REQUIREMENTS
pplicants must meet the following requirements: (Proof of the information will be required at time of conditional offer of employment)
High school graduate or G.E.D. equivalency.
Twenty years of age or older by November 20, 2006.
Valid motor vehicle operator’s license.

You must be a citizen of the United States or have applied for citizenship. Citizenship must be granted within three years of appointment. Your weight must be in proportion to height, muscular development and skeletal structure; your vision must be correctable to 20/20; you must have normal color vision and hearing; you must not have been convicted of any crime punishable by imprisonment in any penitentiary (i.e., a felony conviction). You must have the ability to make decisions and read, comprehend and retain technical training materials. You must possess good observation, writing, communication and human relation skills. You must endure periods of strenuous physical activity requiring good balance, coordination, flexibility, endurance and strength.
