THE POSITION
Career-minded individuals will be enrolled in a California P.O.S.T. Certified Basic Police Academy in a non-sworn capacity, under the sponsorship of the Buena Park Police Department. After meeting all state mandated academy requirements, including graduation from the Police Academy, incumbents will be considered for promotion to Police Officer. (Police Officer Salary: $4,477 - $5,720/mo. With a 5% increase effective 01/01/07)

QUALIFICATIONS

AGE: 21 years of age at time of hire (tentative hire date, beginning of November 2006).
EDUCATION: High school graduation or equivalent.
VISION: 20/100, correctable to 20/20; with normal color vision and depth perception.
PHYSICAL: Height and weight in correct proportion to meet City standards.
CITIZENSHIP: U.S. citizenship is required prior to enrollment in the Academy.
DRIVER’S LICENSE: A valid California (Class 3) driver’s license, with an acceptable driving record.
EXPERIENCE: No law enforcement experience required.

Applicants must file a City application with the Human Resources Office by the filing deadline. Applications may be accompanied by a resume describing experience, education, and training in relation to the requirements of the position. All applications will be reviewed and those meeting the above qualifications will be invited to participate in the testing process.

The testing process will include a physical agility test, written examination and an oral interview.

An eligibility list may be established subject to a comprehensive background investigation, including polygraph testing, an interview with Chief of Police, psychological evaluation and medical examination.

Successful candidate will be enrolled into the Golden West Police Academy November 6, 2006 or the Orange County Sheriff’s Academy on November 13, 2006.

NO SMOKING CLAUSE

Employees hired after January 1, 1987, as a condition of continued employment, shall refrain from smoking tobacco or any other non-tobacco substance at any time on or off duty. Violations of this condition of employment shall be deemed good cause for dismissal.
