PARK RANGER IIRECRUITMENT DATES August 28, 2006 – September 15, 2006.SALARY $15.67 - $23.31 hourly / $32,594 - $48,485 annualized.EXPERIENCE Requires one year of experience as a Park Ranger or in natural resource management. A bachelor's degree in natural resource management, recreation management, environmental science, or a related field is desirable. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to perform programming and enforcement duties in natural resource riparian/desert mountain preserve areas including trails and open spaces. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum qualifications may be substituted.DUTIES Preserves and protects the natural habitat and physical facilities of City mountain parks, flat land parks, programs and plans educational outdoor interpretive programs, provides a wide variety of information about other park and recreation facilities to the public, and enforces rules, regulations, and ordinances related to City park usage through educating the public and issuing citations. Currently there are several vacancies within the Parks and Recreation Department. Additional vacancies are anticipated over the life of this eligible (hiring) list.ALSO REQUIRED All positions in this classification require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess an appropriate valid Arizona driver's license, possess personal insurance coverage, and have an acceptable driving record. Employment is contingent upon the employee meeting background checks and fingerprinting standards for positions that work with children. Working irregular hours, shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings may be required. Moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds may be required. Must be able to walk over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces. Must be able to ride a horse or mountain bike and work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements. Some positions require the ability to safely operate an ATV.RESIDENCE Maricopa County residency is required within 24 months after the date of hire and must be maintained.EVALUATION Based on resume and cover letter.
