Heavy Truck/Equipment Technician

This is work repairing, overhauling and replacing gasoline or diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, ignition systems or related equipment in automobiles, trucks, buses, firefighting equipment, emergency vehicles, heavy construction or related equipment; and repairing and painting the bodies of various types of vehicles. SPECIAL NOTE: This position has been identified by Sarasota County Government as one that will require a pre-employment drug screen as part of the selection process. An applicant must successfully pass this test prior to the start of employment. External applicants who fail will be disqualified from employment with the County for a period of five (5) years. Internal applicants will be subject to the County's policies and procedures on positive drug tests.

SPECIAL NOTE: Business Center is currently recruiting for five (5) vacancies. One (1) is a PERMANENT position, and four (4) will be TEMPORARY positions as these four positions might not be available till our Fiscal Year07, which in government is October 2006. Also, for these positions you must provide own tools relating to heavy repairs of transit vehicles.
REQUIREMENTS
A High School Diploma or GED and at least two (2) years of experience in automotive or equipment repair. SPECIAL NOTE: A special type of automotive or related heavy equipment repair experience such as diesel, fire equipment, emergency vehicle or heavy construction equipment may be required to meet the needs of a particular position.

Possession of Florida Commercial Driver License appropriate to the position within 6 weeks of employment.
