IAP World Services is the Supplemental Labor Personnel for the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Must be a U.S. Citizen and at least 18 years of age. Must be able to acquire and maintain applicable security clearance.
NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITIONThe Information and Communication Services Department's Telecommunication Systems Division has four openings for customer-focused individuals to provide advanced technical support to test, troubleshoot, evaluate, maintain, and install electronic telecommunication systems, components, and equipment. The individuals will work under minimal diredion and will report to the Installation Technician Unit Supervisor. Primary interactions are with co-workers, supervisor, technical support personnel, building coordinators, and projed managers.ESSENTIAL DUTIES-Install and maintain terminal equipment, building power supplies, special circuits, horizontal and vertical copper, building wire, fiber optics, and associated terminating equipment.-Build copper and/or fiber optics cross-conneds for the main distribution frame and building distribution frame~ .¬-Evaluate and determine appropriate course of action, and resolve trouble reports.-Work with customer service representatives and service order control personnel on issues involving assigned customer service orders..-Provide advanced technical support for other technicians in the Installation Unit regarding complex technical problems; work with switch technicians to resolve assigned customer service order and repair problems involving central office equipment.-Splice and terminate fiber optic cable; work cable and line transfers. -Resolve trouble tickets in field or remotely via a trunk line work station.-May perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
ESSENTIAL SKillS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES-AA degree in eledronics and/or telecommunications or equivalent combination of education and significant experience.-Demonstrated high-level knowledge of telecommunications, including 5ESS switching system, cable systems, voice and data terminal equipment, power supplies and NT1, building wire and associated terminating equipment, special circuits, splicing and terminating fiber optic and copper cable, modems CSU/DSU, Stat Mux, and T1.-Demonstrated ability to operate an OTDR and power meters.-Demonstrated knowledge of the appropriate telecommunications specificationsin the National Electric Code (NEC), Bell Systems Practices (BSP), ElectricIndustry Association (EIA), and Telephone Industry Association (TIA). -Demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively with a diverse workforce and customers.-Demonstrated project management skills.-Demonstrated ability to work safely.-Experience with Environmental, Safety, and Health (ES&H) related facility guidelines and procedures.-Willing to work overtime when needed.-Must be able to climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and lift 50 Ibs. -Must have current California driver's license.DESIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES-Knowledge of the LLNL telecommunications infrastructure, physical plant layout, security requirements, service order systems, and procedures and documentation systems.-Knowledge of LLNL facilities and programs.
