Electron Microscopist

Cambridge Scientific is currently seeking an Electron Microscopist to work on-site at one of the country's leading research facilities located in Frederick, MD!
The incumbent will be responsible for providing technical guidance in the performance of diagnostic and research support in an electron microscopy laboratory. Research study involves providing electron microscopic support to principle investigators for a wide variety of toxic and infectious agents. Utilizes a variety of ultrastructural microscopy techniques to identify toxic and infectious biological warfare (BW) agents in biological systems and to identify and define ultrastructural changes elicited by BW agents. Develops technical advances in ultrastructural methodologies to be utilized in ongoing and future research. Provides collaborative research and diagnostic support with particular emphasis on the ultrastructural interpretation of subcellular lesions associated with BW agents. Serves as technical expert in ultrastructural microscopy for both research and diagnostic cases and to the technical electron microscopy staff. The incumbent will be responsible for training and monitoring the technical staff in ultrastructural methodologies.

Specific tasks include:
Perform, standardize, and develop routine electron microscopy assays on and for submitted biological samples. The contractor should be proficient in all facets of transmission electron microscopy, immunoelectron microscopy, cryoelectron microscopy, negative staining, and immuno negative staining for both cell culture and tissue samples.
Provide guidance and training for subordinates in electron microscopy procedures and other routine laboratory skills, and assist principle investigators in operation of the electron microscopes.Maintain accurate records, databases, supplies, and equipment for the laboratory, and assist the Pathology Laboratory Administrator with budgetary planning and execution.
Assist in writing, modifying, and reviewing standard operating procedures and laboratory protocols.Provide electron microscopy consultation to and help design and develop protocols for principle investigators. Assist principle investigators in assimilating electron microscopy data and drafting manuscripts. Provide guidance to the Division Director and the Laboratory Administrator on daily lab operations including suggestions on improving the efficiency and technology of the laboratory.
REQUIREMENTS
B.S. is required and a M.S degree is preferred. Extensive experience in electron microscopy, specifically in the biological sciences, is required.
Must be proficient in the aforementioned tasks.
Enrollment in the Special Immunizations Program is not required.
Maintain a safe workplace and occupational health rules and regulations. Contractor employee is required to attend safety training relative to his/her position.
