Deputy Director of Current Planning

Up to $122,262/yr (pending salary approval)
The Position
The Department of Land Use Services is recruiting for a Deputy Director to plan, organize and direct Current Planning.

Essential functions of this classification are to:
Develop and direct programs, policies and procedures to meet local needs, to comply with federal and state mandates, or to improve service to the public.
Plan, assign, direct, review and evaluate the work of subordinates; provide guidance on major projects. Review, approve and recommend personnel actions. Evaluate training needs.
Make presentations before community groups, Board of Supervisors, Planning Commission, Environmental Review Commission, city councils, regional governments or other decision-making or public interest groups.
Represent the Director and coordinate activities with other County departments, local government and private agencies. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with organizations.
Prepare or direct the preparation of a variety of correspondence and reports. Write and/or edit board agenda transmittals, general plan reports, and other major project reports. Prepare proposals to secure funding.
Approve the scheduling of all hearing items with decision-making bodies.
Assist the Director in planning, preparing, justifying and implementing the departmental budget.
Serve as member of the management team of the Department of Land Use Services.
Act as Zoning Administrator/Chair Development Review Committee.
REQUIREMENTS
Experience: Four years of progressively responsible professional level land use planning experience that includes two years of administrative or managerial responsibility.

Education: A bachelor’s degree or coursework equivalent in urban/regional planning, architecture, public/business administration, geography, or ecology. AICP preferred.

Substitution: A master’s degree in any of the above areas may be substituted for up to one year of professional experience.
