INTRODUCTION
The court services generalist works in the Clerk's Office and provides courtroom deputy clerk and docketing support for both magistrate and district court judges as needed and assigned by management. Success in this very public, high-stress, demanding position requires attention to detail, adherence to strict deadlines, multi-tasking skills, and the ability to respond to multiple and sometimes competing demands. A court services generalist represents the clerk in matters relating to courtroom proceedings.

OCCUPATIONAL INFORMATION
The person selected for this position will be trained in courtroom policies and procedures including the individual preferences of the various judges and magistrate judges. The person selected for this position must have strong organizational skills and skill in communicating and working with a variety of courtroom staff for the purpose of scheduling events and other courtroom logistics. The ability to take notes and summarize material for minute entries and judgments is a basic requirement as is possessing effective public speaking skills for making courtroom pronouncements and calling calendars. Court services generalists need to have knowledge and skill in the use of automated systems. The court services generalist also provides case management support by monitoring the status of filings, setting hearings, and preparing the court's calendar and reviewing civil and criminal case management reports. Magistrate court proceedings are digitally recorded and the court services generalist monitors and maintains the taped recordings of the proceedings.The incumbent will also be assigned routine docketing functions. A docket clerk makes summary entries of all documents and proceedings on the docket, including, but not limited to: pleadings, petitions, motions, complaints, minutes, and orders. The docket clerk assists in proper case management by ensuring that all automated entries are appropriately linked. Docket clerks have frequent contacts with judicial staff, other federal agencies, attorneys and the public and provide information related to court procedures and the status of court proceedings and documents.
REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The successful applicant must have at least 3 years of specialized experience, including at least one year equivalent to work at the next lower level (CL 25). Specialized experience is progressively responsible clerical experience requiring the regular and recurring application of clerical procedures involving the routine use of keyboard skills and use of specialized terminology, and demonstrated ability to apply a body of rules, regulations, directives, or laws. Such experience is commonly encountered in law firms, legal counsel offices, banking and credit firms, educational institutions, social service organizations, insurance companies, real estate and title offices, and corporate headquarters or personnel/payroll operations.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
•Excellent written and oral communication skills.•Skill communicating and working with a variety of employees, scheduling events and managing logistics.•Some knowledge and understanding of court proceedings.•Knowledge of a variety of automated applications and the ability to implement changes and new software and automated systems.•Experience which reflects the applicant’s ability to work under pressure and deal with change.•Experience with current versions of word processing software, electronic mail, and operating systems.•Work experience that supports ability to successfully manage multiple priorities, work with limited supervision, and skill in dealing with others in person-to-person work relationships.•Ability to take notes and summarize material for minute entries/judgments in a distracting setting.•Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college.SELECTION PROCESS
Judiciary employees serve under excepted appointments and are considered at will employees. Participation in the interview process will be at the applicant's own expense and relocation expenses will not be provided. The initial appointment to this position is provisional pending the successful completion of the required background checks or investigations. The United States District Court is a drug-free work place and the applicant selected will also be required to participate in a drug screening test prior to employment.
