Sr System Operations Engineer / Analyst
· Provides technical engineering support services to the System Operations Center to update, develop, and maintain the Energy Management System (EMS) along with other control center automation systems. Provides technical support to control center personnel on EMS operation, transmission network security, analysis, simulation, and optimization, and SCADA / supervisory control and data acquisition. Performs hardware and software engineering work associated with reliable and economic interconnected electric transmission system operations. Train and develop Power System Operators and engineering staff on complex EMS software. Troubleshoot EMS hardware and software to diagnose malfunctioning equipment, system software or applications. Technical support for Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) problems at electrical substations Lead the design, installation and maintenance of EMS databases and displays to support user and application requirements. Recommends and performs upgrades to optimize complex EMS user interfaces. Performs computer analysis and manipulation of data, as well as acquisition of data from other computer sources. Participates in the administration of EMS computer systems, including the evaluation and purchase of new software and hardware for the EMS computer systems. Provides on call, after hours support on a rotating schedule.
Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in electrical engineering or computer science 5+ years experience in System Operations Engineering or electrical computer engineering Significant background in Interconnected Electrical Transmission System Operations and proven knowledge of technical software and hardware compatibility with computer systems is essential. Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills along with the proven ability to plan and execute responsibilities within a self-directed work team environment is a must
