Business Information Analyst

Meets with end-users, or clients within a financial services organization, to discuss projects requiring the extraction or manipulation of data stored in organization databases or mainframe systems. Clarifies, and confirms the specifications. Offers additional suggestions or alternatives to assist the end-user or client in obtaining data in the most expedient time frame. Ensures consensus with the end-user, or client of the business unit, on necessary specifications.
Independently assumes general research and computer programming projects for assigned department. May serve as a team leader of small to medium project teams.
Develops, tests, and writes moderate to difficult complex application programs, queries, or profiles according to the specifications as required. Codes and changes programs as necessary. Modifies existing programs as necessary to meet the needs of the end-user, or client of the business unit.
Maintains data marts. Modifies data marts as necessary to meet the needs of the end-user, client, or department.
Prepares data according to the needs of the end-users, client, or department including the provision of downloads of the information for the end-user or client to further use in developing complex reports which may require data manipulation and analysis. May also develop charts or other visual aids to assist in understanding the data.
May implement tracking devices for evaluating progress of meeting project goals and objectives.
Performs maintenance of generated programs, queries, and profiles to ensure organizational computer systems operate in an efficient manner. Develops and implements programs in a scheduled environment as required.
May receive "raw data" from outside sources. Manipulates the data to input into database. Uses data according to the needs of the business unit or outside client.
Works with members of Technology Services on a variety of issues and projects as mutually needed. Submits data marts to Technology Services for implementation into data warehouse.

job Requirements


This position requires a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics or related field and a minimum of three years computer programming experience, preferably in a financial services environment and at least two years working in the assigned business unit or an equivalent capacity outside of the organization. This position requires: proficiency in one or more computer programming languages preferably Visual Basic, MS Access, SQL, MS Office automation, or OLAP. Knowledge of SAS (Statistical Analysis Software), JAVA and HTML would be a plus. The ideal candidate wuold have knowledge of logical data modeling, business rule definition, and meta-data management; the ability to actively listen, interview end-users or clients, and apply information from meetings to complete tasks; mathematical and statistical aptitude; strong interpersonal and presentation skills; and good written and verbal communication skills.
