The Position:
The City of Indio is the largest city in the Coachella Valley with a current population of about 70,000. The population is expected to double in the next decade. The Indio Police Department is recognized for having one of the finest Community Oriented Policing programs in California.

Entry-Level – Completion within the past three years, or currently enrolled in a California POST Basic Academy as required under California Penal Code and eligible to possess a California Basic POST Certificate.
Lateral – Currently employed as a California Peace Officer with one year of experience, or employed within the last twelve (12) months with a minimum of one year experience; and possess a California Basic POST Certificate. Under general supervision, perform law enforcement and related functions relative to the protection of life and property of the citizens of the City of Indio. Patrol an assigned area of the City in a radio-equipped police emergency vehicle and responds to various types of calls. Discover and prevent criminal activities. Enforce City, County, State and applicable Federal laws. Complete reports on activities and arrests.

REQUIREMENTS
Education, Experience and Requirements: Graduation from high school or GED and college level course work in police science, sociology, psychology or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Applicants currently employed as a Police Officer in California, or in possession of a valid POST certificate (attach copy), are required to pass a physical agility test held by the Indio Police Department, unless applicant applies within 90 days after successfully completing a POST certified academy program. Possession of a valid California driver’s license, must be age 21 and have corrected vision of not less than 20/20. Possess First Aid and CPR certification. Applicants selected will be required to pass an extensive background investigation including a polygraph, psychological and medical exams. FLSA Designation: Non-exempt
