Location: Los Angeles, CA Day and Night Shift opportunities Job Description: The Qwest Lead Operations Technician duties and responsibilities include: Provide a Supervisor/Leadership role for assigned area or group of technicians, as determined by Manager. Work with Manager and other Lead Technicians (if applicable), to ensure entire department accomplishes all assigned tasks safely and in accordance with “Operational Excellence” guidelines. Provide first level technical support to all other technicians. Provide OJT for technicians in all disciplines of the job. Perform informal site visits/inspections to ensure compliance with standards, and ensure preventive and all other maintenance is being performed properly and in a timely fashion. Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on the various pieces of equipment that provide PSTN switching, broadband transport, multiplexing, ATM switching, VoIP switching, and Internet services. Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on various sites’ environmental equipment to include the HVAC systems, AC switchgear, DC power plants, generators, and alarming systems. Maintain a clean, safe, and secure working environment. Perform scheduled Preventative Maintenance on transmission equipment, power plants, generators and support equipment as outlined by Qwest guidelines. Install any and all telecommunications equipment per Qwest standards to save Qwest both time and money. Maintain an accurate inventory of all Qwest assets and tools as well as shipping and receiving records. Perform system upgrades as mandated by Qwest. Provide Change Management approval/scheduling through the use of research and coordination with site technicians, for sites in AOR. Strong technical skill level working on complex assignments within the network systems installation and/or maintenance activities. Responsible for operations and maintenance of the Nortel DMS-250 Switch, sometimes including complex troubleshooting. Diagnostic testing ability on multiple telecommunication platforms. Has a solid comprehension of the fundamentals of AC/DC power. Resolves complex network problems involving power, network hardware and software, lines, modems and terminals. Uses software and hardware tools to identify and diagnose network status and problems; conducts complex network monitoring equipment installation and maintenance activities; resolves complex trouble tickets. Test and turn-up new circuits (DS0 to OC-192); responsible for cross-connects and any other wiring. Troubleshoot and repair any hardware issues. A high level of organization, and proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Ability to understand and communicate using technical concepts, practices, and terminology. Ability to self-manage responsibilities in order to achieve daily results, while supporting other team members. Ensure Manager is informed and “in the loop” on all activities in AOR.

REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications:
Associate degree in Engineering, Electronics, Software, or Telecommunication Networks; or a related technical, vocational education or equivalent applicable work experience. 36+ months experience with AC/DC power including batteries. Installation and maintenance of design service circuits. Previous experience with an RBOC or other telephone company. Nortel DMS-250 Switch experience. Experience with installation of telephony equipment. Desired Qualifications: Nortel OC-48/192, Cisco 15454; Ciena ONI, and Ciena Corestream/Mulitwave experience. Familiar with various levels and components of the Nortel DMS-250 Switch. Experience with diesel engine generators. Other Requirements of the job: This is a 24/7/365 day position with on-call duty on a rotating basis. Work Environment: Must be able to lift or move up to 100+ pounds. Wear appropriate safety equipment and follows company safety procedures. Work independently and must meet deadlines accordingly. Central Office Switching - Environmentally Controlled Facility. Will be working aloft on ladders at times. May be confined to a position for extended periods of time.
