Lead Facilities Maintenance Technician
The City of Irvine seeks an experienced, energetic and enthusiastic individual to perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled building and facilities maintenance work as well as serve as lead worker over Facilities Maintenance Technicians. Lead Facilities Maintenance Technicians are required to perform a broad range of repair work, including but not limited to carpentry, plumbing, welding, painting, framing, metal fabrication, and electrical and custodial tasks; locksmith experience is desirable. Positions may be assigned to a variety of City facilities including City Hall, community buildings, parks, aquatics facilities, athletic fields, art facilities, senior centers and/or pump stations. At these public facilities you will interact with a wide variety of people of varying ages, interests, and cultural backgrounds. As such, this assignment requires an individual with strong leadership, communication and public relations skills with a can-do approach to customer service. In addition to building maintenance know-how, the successful applicant must have a work history that demonstrates the ability to read and understand blueprints, electrical diagrams and schematics; troubleshoot equipment malfunction, and operate construction and maintenance equipment using safe work practices. Experience operating a computer is highly desirable as the City utilizes a computerized maintenance system for scheduling, record keeping, purchasing and inventory tracking. This position will work a 5/8 schedule. This recruitment will establish an eligibility list to fill future vacancies in this classification.
REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate will possess a High School diploma or equivalent with vocational/ technical coursework in facilities/building maintenance/repair and four years of related experience or any combination of education and experience that provides the equivalent knowledge, skills, and ability. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver’s license is required. Possession of a California Pest Applicator’s license may be required. We are also looking for individuals whose background and experience indicates the ability to perform the following tasks: • Inspect city buildings, equipment and facilities for needed and completed maintenance/repair. • Assist with personnel administration; provide guidance and technical support including training; assist with performance evaluations; plan daily work schedules of Maintenance Technicians. • Perform building maintenance tasks that may involve carpentry, plumbing, metal fabrication, welding, HVAC, electrical painting tasks and locksmith experience. • Develop contract and capital improvement project estimates, obtain contract proposals, review contracts and recommend specifications. • Complete required reports and correspondence, maintain communication with supervisors, personnel and departments as needed. • Maintain knowledge of City policies, safe work practices and hazards, training and communication techniques. • Maintain park, play, athletic equipment pumps and water quality for lakes and aquatic complex. • Operate equipment and machinery requiring complex and rapid adjustments, such as hand and power tools, saws, hammers, drills, mixers, planers, brushes, scrapers, sanders, compressors, motor vehicles/trucks. • Exert moderately heavy physical effort in moderate to heavy work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling. • Recognize and identify degrees of similarities or differences between characteristics of colors, forms, sounds, odors and textures. • Coordinate eyes, hands, feet and limbs in performing semi-skilled movements. • Work in inclement weather as well as overtime and weekly standby shifts.
