Director, Facilities and Environmental, Health & Safety
JOB OBJECTIVE: Manages and oversees the strategic and tactical activities of facilities planning, expansion, housekeeping and maintenance, environmental, safety, and security. Ensures compliance with corporate requirements and applicable local, state and federal requirements including ISO and OSHA. Maintains a clean and safe working environment for employees. Manages the development, planning and implementation of environmental, industrial, health and safety programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
1.Provides overall direction and leadership for the operation and management of EHS, Facilities Services and Custodial Services groups/departments to meet organizational goals and objectives.
2.Develops health and safety policies and procedures (chemical safety, waste management, ergonomics, illness and injury preventions, and building safety), including those pertaining to hazardous materials and work areas.
3.Develops plans to achieve safety and environmental goals and objectives and insures an active and effective EHS Committee.
4.Leads the development of Health, Safety, and Environmental Management Systems on a global basis. Assures Health, Safety, and Environmental Management Systems meets all corporate objectives and regulatory requirements. Monitors performance and conducts periodic audits of Health, Safety, and Environmental Management Systems to assure compliance to all requirements.
5.Plan strategically and operationally for future needs of all areas of responsibility and for the organization as required. Interface and collaborate with other internal and external stakeholders in the development of cross departmental work. Develop departmental staffing, budget, training and capital expense plans annually to meet departmental needs and organizational profit objectives.
6.Represent corporate needs on large projects, program assignments and space planning needs. Interact with and successfully negotiate with architects, engineers, consultants and contractors as needed.
7.Leads development and maintenance of company Business Continuity Plans to reduce risks and ensure rapid recovery of key business operations during any emergency disaster according to corporate guidelines.
8.Assures facilities requirements are proactively planned, executed and maintained. Assures that facilities documentation including design drawings, as-builds and specifications are up to date and accurate.
9.Recruit, manage and develop all staff to meet staff, departmental and business needs. Develops staff and manages performance utilizing metrics, goals and objectives, performance appraisal, and succession planning to insure organization is effective and poised to strategically meet the needs of the business.
10.Maintains a clean and safe working environment for employees.
11.Will understand and comply with all elements of the Promega Quality System as required for this position.
REQUIREMENTS
MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS:
1.Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, environmental, safety, chemistry or related field with emphasis in a lab environment.
2.Minimum of 10 years extensive management experience supervising people and projects.
3.Minimum of 5 years experience in engineering/facilities environment.
4.Minimum of 5 years of Environmental, Health and Safety Management experience.
5.Three (3) years experience working in a life sciences or chemical manufacturing company.
6.Ability to communicate effectively (oral, written, formal and informal) with stakeholders at all levels within and outside the organization.
7.Focus on improving processes and has a track record of excellent results and proven ability to manage complexity.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1.Advanced degree (Masters or MBA).
2.Demonstrated working knowledge of Uniform Fire and Building Codes and regulatory permitting.
3.Experience with cGMP and ISO Quality System requirements.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1.Ability to move up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
2.Ability to wear safety equipment (i.e., safety glasses, lab coat, etc.).
3.Ability to climb ladders occasionally.
4.Ability to use computer equipment.
