DIVISION CONTROLLER - VICE PRESIDENT, BUILDING MATERIALS DIVISION
GENERAL: Castle and Cooke Building Materials a privately held building materials division headquartered in Lake Elsinore, California has seen tremendous growth the last few years as part of it's growth strategy. It is part of Castle & Cooke Inc. which is a privately held company owned by Mr. David Murdock that is primarily involved in real estate development and ownership, transportation equipment leasing, trucking, brick and building materials manufacturing and other investments. The company also owns two of the world's highest-rated resorts and ninety-nine percent of the island of Lana'i in Hawai'i, making it the largest privately held island in America. Including Mr Murdock's food related businesses operating as Dole Foods Inc. Mr. Murdock's combined companies make up one of the largest privately-held companies in America, with approximately 63,000 employees operating in more than 90 countries around the world.
Castle and Cooke Building Materials division's core brick manufacturing operations have been in business over 40 years. Recent growth and expansion into other building materials products has created an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to put their mark on the company’s future operations.
We’re in search of a hands on professional to handle and oversee the day to day operations and implement the strategy of the accounting, finance, Information Technology and risk management areas. In addition, the position will be responsible for the oversight of 5 operating company’s controllers and financial staff. The position reports directly to the Division – President and has a dotted line reporting relationship to the Vice President – Chief Financial Officer of the corporation.
Position includes: Directing the organization's accounting functions. These functions include establishing and maintaining the organization's accounting principles, practices, procedures, and initiatives. Preparing financial reports and presenting findings and recommendations to top management. Demonstrating expertise in a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Leads and directs the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
1) Will ensure timely and accurate financial statements are generated together with the proper interpretation of the meaning of the consolidated business results, the key cash flow and expense variances, and performance of the individual business portfolios;
2) Will identify new areas for cost savings;
3) Will strengthen information systems and processes which support operations and the financial functions;
4) Will oversee the cash management and investment functions and establish and manage external relationships to ensure optimal benefit to the company.
5) This individual will be expected to provide a vision for the financial staff as well as the specific tools and training to help them grow and succeed.
6) The Controller will support the development of complex financial models and utilize them to help make key capital investment decisions. This individual will pro-actively delegate increasing responsibilities to the high potential performers on the financial staff and will put in place motivating career plans for them.
7) Handle and oversee the budgeting and forecasting for the business units.
REQUIREMENTS
EXPERIENCE:
The ideal candidate will have a strong accounting background with a CPA, some relevant audit experience in a public accounting firm, manufacturing experience and experience managing a staff. This person will have displayed strong loyalty as evidenced by working for a limited number of companies throughout a career of at least 10 years. This individual will have demonstrated the highest level of integrity, the strategic business acumen and professionalism to manage outside relationships effectively, and the ability to connect well with all levels of internal management. Outstanding communications and listening skills are important, including the ability to push back tactfully when a better approach exists to benefit company performance. An exceptional work ethic, high energy, and proper attention to details using a hands on style when required are all necessary for success.
EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS:
Requires a bachelor's degree and at least 10 years of direct experience in the field. Requires a CPA. MBA a plus but not required.
