Sr. HP-UX Engineer with Veritas

Overview:
Build and deploy systems per project requirements. Work with development projects on creating system architectures and designs. Provide technical consulting to users and to IT staff related to architectural/platform support for applications.

Tasks: Develops, modifies, installs, maintains, analyzes and supports operating systems. Troubleshoots systems/network problems and investigates underlying problems. Monitors systems/network performance and capacity and advises others in systems status. Answers technical questions and corrects deficiencies in operating systems/network or related software. Develops standard and non-standard portions of deployment and implementation plan including steps to resolve hardware/software/network compatibility issues; tests operating system software/networks and guides users in required operational changes. Assesses implementation options and recommends most appropriate process to client.

The team size is approx 25. There is no day-to-day system administration; the work is primarily project related (inception to go-live). Recognized subject matter expert. Serves as prime consultant on highly significant matters relating to policies, programs, capabilities and long-range goals and objectives. Mastery of existing and emerging technologies, processes, and practices. Develops new applications based on professional principles and theories. Typically requires BS/BA in related discipline and 10-15 years of increasingly diverse or complex applications in field of expertise or MS/MA and generally at least 8-12 years of experience in related field. Professional certification required in some areas.

Summary:
Manages the programming, administration, and support activities for the enterprise's operating systems that may reside on multiple platforms. Selects, develops, and maintains operating systems/networks and works continuously to improve system/network efficiency. Develops procedures, methods, and standards such as operating system/networks programming standards and operating system/networks program documentation. Interacts with members of the IT community to coordinate implementation of new systems/networks software. Provides technical consulting to users and to IT staff related to architectural/platform support for applications.

Tasks & Accountabilities Develops, modifies, installs, maintains, analyzes, and supports operating systems/networks and performance tools. Plans, coordinates, and maintains systems programming and systems support activities, such as new or revised program language codes, processing routines, platform dependent network infrastructure and report generators. Troubleshoots systems/network problems and investigates underlying problems. Advises developers in design of new applications and provides expertise on system/network capabilities and constraints. Conducts systems/network studies and performance analyses and recommends change. Monitors systems/network performance and capacity and advises others in systems status. Answers technical questions and corrects deficiencies in operating systems/network or related software. Develops standard and non-standard portions of deployment and implementation plan including steps to resolve hardware/software/network compatibility issues; tests operating system software/networks and guides users in required operational changes. Assesses implementation options and recommends most appropriate process to client. Ensures adherence to testing and installation procedures and resolves deviations with appropriate resources, on schedule and according to implementation plan. At higher levels, provides expertise on decisions and priorities regarding client's overall systems/network architecture and the development of standards and guidelines that guide the design of technology solutions; researches emerging methods, tools, and technologies. At higher levels, may provide functional guidance, advice, and/or training to less experienced systems engineering professionals
REQUIREMENTS
Skills & Qualifications The priority on the skills is #1 HPUX and #2 Veritas. We are seeking a senior level person with a minimum of 10 years experience and preferably much closer to 15 years experience in a distributed environment; minimum 4 years exp with HP 11i V.1 or 2 and Veritas Availability Solutions, VCS, Storage Foundation, and SFRAC required. This is an individual contributor role with leadership/mentorship responsibilities.
