Senior Field Repair Mechanic

Company: North America Mining Job Function: Skilled Trades Job Description: Major Responsibilities: Twelve to fifteen month environmental 28 North Project.

This position requires a Team oriented professional mechanical person who will safely and efficiently repair equipment in the Mine Maintenance Department for the 28 reclamation project.

Successful candidate will perform maintenance, troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic and air conditioning systems.

Individual will perform welding as needed and work from SOPs.Essential job functions include but are not limited to:
Safely, efficiently and effectively maintain, diagnose and repair assigned equipment with minimum or no supervision.

Install new, used and rebuilt components in shovels, haul trucks, dozers, loaders, motor graders and all other mining equipment.

Basic welding and use of Oxy/Act. torch.

Work with welders, electricians, and other crafts as required.

Read and understand technical manuals, journals and schematic diagrams.

Work will consist of 12 hour shifts 24 -7.

Excellent safety and attendance record.

Know the process of mine operation functions.

Must posses a valid driver’s license.
-Five years mechanical repairman experience in an open pit mining environment or a comparable industrial setting.

Knowledgeable and capable of performing basic welding techniques including out-of-position angles and exegetic materials

Possess tool set including all standard hand tools including wrench and socket sets up to 1 1/2 inch (or obtain them within 30 days of hire)

Effective written, verbal, and communication skills to satisfy training, safety, and electronic message transmission policies of the company.

Experience maintaining heavy equipment (haul trucks, dozers, graders, etc)

Ability to work on air conditioning systems would be a plus.

Read schematic diagrams, prints and technical manuals to affect repairs and perform maintenance.

Use a computer to write reports, generate work orders and order parts.

Able to set up and lead on a major job with limited supervision.

Must be able to read and comprehend written instructions and procedures

Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills.

Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of the job.

High school diploma or GED

Work in a manner consistent with Phelps Dodge safety policy.

Other duties may be assigned as necessary.Criteria/Conditions (specific background and skills):
Work is generally in a mine or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see.

Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects (up to 30 pounds) during the course of the workday.

Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses with side shields, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required.
