SQL Server Database Administrator

Job Description:

As part of a team, this position is responsible for the design, implementation and administration of large distributed databases with high volume and high availability requirements. The position will be responsible for supporting the database tables, indexes, views, constraints, triggers, stored procedures, tablespaces or storage parameters and other database-specific constructs. You will also be responsible for providing off-hour support for production databases.

Primary Duties:

- This candidate will be designing and developing back end code and data modeling.

- Designing stored procedures will be required.

- Install SQL Server - This also includes service pack deployments.

- Install and deploy databases- This includes the base installation scripts to create the tables, indexes, stored procedures and initial data.

- Create backup plans – Based on the business needs of the company (how valuable is your data), find the best solution for the budget and create a backup schedule around the plan.

- Test disaster recovery scenarios – Performs regular random drills to test the backup plan and to test the integrity of the company’s backups.

- Manage security – Work with the security department and the product planners to determine how much access the application will need to the database.

- Sizes out machines –Take in the benchmarking evidence and find out what type of machine will be needed for deployment.

- Performance tuning – This type of DBA tunes the physical layer of the database. He may choose to do this by tuning the file structure and organization, scheduling index rebuilds, and any hardware-type decisions. Profiler to determine where poorly running queries are and provide any assistance in rewriting the query. He must also look at execution plans to determine where indexes can be built to improve performance.

- Data modeling – Creating the physical data model and modifying the model on an as-need basis. This usually means working closely with the data analyst and product planners.

- Creating DTS packages –Must create processes to load and scrub data.

- Stored procedure writing –Write, tune and modify the stored procedures.
REQUIREMENTS
Education:

A Bachelor’s degree is required or equivalent certifications.

Experience:

Must have a minimum of 5 years experience with SQL Server, SQL 7 and SQL 2000 a must.

Also, the candidate needs at least 5 years of experience in database design, implementation and administration large complex mission critical databases.
