Process Engineer

MeadWestvaco Packaging Resources Group is currently seeking a Process Engineer for the Mahrt Mill. MeadWestvaco's Mahrt Mill manufactures over 1 million tons of coated unbleached Kraft paperboard, known as Coated Natural Kraft for use in multiple beverage packaging and folding cartons. Customers include folding carton manufacturers in North America and Europe as well as MeadWestvaco's CSG worldwide beverage packaging business. Based in Phenix City, AL, the location operates two paper machines at its Mahrt Mill in nearby Cottonton. Additionally, the PRG produces dimensional lumber and small timbers, as well as wood chips for the Mahrt Mill, at its Cottonton Sawmill.

Job Summary
Provide technical services in monitoring, investigating, evaluating and making recommendations for improving quality, quantity, and cost of the various manufacturing processes.

Specific Job Duties
- Provide management with information on quality and operating parameters to assist in process control, budgeting, and detection of trends.
- Participate on process improvement teams to identify problems, evaluate solutions, make recommendations, and assist in implementing approved changes to improve quality, cost, and/or throughput.
- Carry out duties of ERP OPO Superuser, including managing Master Data, clearing errors and reel residuals, assisting with Accounting period close.
- Participate in Paperboard Knowledge as an instructor and/or tour guide to support Sales/Marketing effort.
- Participate as an internal ISO auditor to ensure compliance of mill's quality system with ISO standard.
REQUIREMENTS


Job Requirements
- BS Degree in a related field such as Chemical Engineering or Pulp & Paper Science.
- 2-3 years of industry experience is required.
- Strong experience with Excel
- Interpersonal skills such as building close working relationships and minimizing disagreements.
- Strong technical aptitude and analysis
- Verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Adaptability to rapidly changing working environments and operational situations. Physical ability to operate in paper mill environment, including light to moderate lifting, walking and climbing, oral communication, correctable vision, and ability to work in a hot, humid, and dusty environment.
