Position RequirementsCandidates will find a working knowledge of hydrology software, AutoCAD and/or Microstation, and ArcView is an advantage. Research in environmental problems, risk assessment, geophysics, or hydrogeology is an advantage. The work will be predominantly field work and must be willing to travel 50 to 90% of the time. The successful candidate will have a “can-do”, hands-on approach and willingness to adjust and maintain field meters, pumps, and other equipment. Position ResponsibilitiesGolder Associates has an immediate opening in our Decatur, Alabama office for a Field Geologist/Hydrogeologist. Successful candidate will provide field, office, and laboratory support in a range of geotechnical and environmental projects. Work will be undertaken at the direction of senior environmental scientist, geologists, and geotechnical engineers. The Staff Geologist’s responsibilities will include but not be limited to: Geological mapping of soils and rocks for environmental and construction projects; Logging of soil/rock borings and test pits, including preparation of geotechnical boring logs; Sampling and field analysis of soils and groundwater for environmental analysis; Preparation and interpretation of geological and engineering geological data;
Support for geophysical investigations (surface and downhole) in U.S. and international projects; Support of aquifer tests; Coordination of drilling and laboratory testing subcontractors; Testing of soils during construction activities; and Preparation of technical reports. Appropriate training will be provided. The successful applicant must have strong analytical and communication skills, a solid understanding of structural geology, hydrogeology, and petrology is required. Candidates should have an MS in Geology or a BS with strong engineering degree with a significant mathematical component. Willingness to work toward Professional Geologist (P.G.) registration is required. Travel within the United States will be necessary for many field studies. Competence in MS Office suite of programs (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) for presentation of written work is necessary. A clean driving record is also required.
