Orientation & Mobility / Vision Specialist

Orientation and Mobility / Vision Specialists provide educational instruction resulting in greater independence for students with challenging behaviors and visual impairments and/or orientation and mobility needs. Duties include writing Individualized Education Plans, developing therapy programs, delivering therapy, and reporting on student progress.
Spectrum Center is an organization serving children with special education needs since 1975. Spectrum Center currently operates six non-public schools and four satellite programs that provide services to students in over fifty school districts. Our programs are designed for students ages 3-22 who have challenging behavior and special educational needs representing a wide array of disabilities, including Severely Handicapped, Autism, Emotionally Disturbed (ED), Deaf Blind, Hearing Impaired, and Traumatic Brain Injury. Our schools provide a menu of education and related services that are outcome driven, research based, and utilize positive behavior management strategies. Our schools work closely with parents, school districts and group homes to develop customized curriculums for each student based on their Individualized Education Program (IEP). Spectrum Center schools have no waiting lists for student enrollment. Our ultimate goal is to facilitate the student’s successful transition back into public schools.
REQUIREMENTS
• Orientation and Mobility credential
• Visual Impairments credential
• Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities and challenging behaviors
• Experience with data guided instruction in a collaborative service delivery model
