Assistant Director, Development Services
Harvey Mudd College (HMC), a member of The Claremont Colleges, is a highly selective private liberal arts college of engineering, science and mathematics, located 35 miles east of Los Angeles in the village of Claremont.
Reporting to the Director of Development Services, assist the Director to deliver high quality programming and computing services. Develop customized reports (Cognos Impromptu, Cognos ReportNet, and SQL); and create processes for electronic transfer of information into statistical and reporting tools to facilitate data manipulation, analysis, and report generation. Maintain and assist in development of Web functions. Assist with responding to data retrieval requests, training office staff in the use of computer and Web services, and computer problem solving for the Department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Develop customized reports for the College Advancement office for the benefit of office staff, college personnel or college-related individuals (alumni, trustees, etc) utilizing the current database management system and report writer system.
2. Assist in the development, installation, and maintenance of office Web functions such as Alumni Online Directory, IA Web View of Jenzabar CX Data, Online Alumni Community, Web Phonathons and other similar functions.
3. Assist in computer problem solving, and provide direct assistance or liaison assistance with department of Computing Information Services, as needed to resolve computing problems.
4. Assist office staff, alumni, and other constituencies in problem solving Web issues related to the Alumni Online Directory, Online Alumni Community, and other similar functions.
5. As time permits and with permission of the DDS, assist other administrative college departments in similar computer activities.
6. Other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Individual must possess knowledge, skills and ability to be able to successfully perform the essential functions of the position, or to be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
1.Demonstrated ability to perform data retrieval and ability to learn (if prior experience does not exist) Jenzabar CX, Cognos Impromptu, Cognos ReportNet, Unix, etc.
2.Experience programming background in SQL, Visual Basic, XML, ASP, Perl, .net (preferred)
3.Experience in databases such as Informix, MS SQL Server, and MS Access.
4.Ability to work both independently and as a member of the College Advancement team.
5.Must be able to meet deadlines, think strategically and work with numbers.
6.Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
7.Personal integrity and ability to appropriately handle confidential and sensitive information.
8.Ability to effectively communicate in English, both orally and in writing.
9.Advanced understanding of office methods, procedures, practices and bookkeeping or accounting.
10.Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage large volumes of data in an accurate and meaningful way.
11.Proven ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relations with both internal and external constituents.
Requires a bachelor’s degree, three to five years experience in database management, web project development, data retrieval, and basic report writing. Experience in higher education is preferred.
Salary is dependent upon qualifications with a minimum of $5,000 per month. This is a full-time, 12 months per year, benefits-eligible, exempt position. Usual schedule is Monday through Friday. An excellent benefits package is available.
