Technical Writer

Marathon Equipment Company, a leader in the waste and recycling equipment manufacturing industry, is seeking Technical Writer to join our Engineering Department in our Vernon, AL facility. This position requires excellent oral and written communication skills.

This position will be responsible for producing service manuals for operation, installation, maintenance, general parts information, and other technical information of our company products and to assist in risk management functions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

•Gathers information needed to compile service manuals by reading and interpreting color-coded blueprints and schematics, using CAD (or other illustrative software) and interviewing product designers in person and via telephone.

•Maintains records of service manuals in both electronic and paper files. Proofreads developed materials and coordinates final preparation of the manuals with a professional printer.

•Develops layout of materials and makes decisions on content to include the degree of detail and supporting documentation, graphs, drawings, etc.

•Makes final revisions and coordinates distribution of manuals to the appropriate sources. Maintains records of distributed materials.

REQUIREMENTS:

•Creativity and ability to accomplish projects with a minimum of supervision.
•Proficiency in AutoCad2004 or Mechanical Desktop (or equivalent illustrative software), Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), and Desktop Publishing Software
•Excellent written and oral communication skills
•Excellent organizational and project management skills
•Must be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously
•Requires a four year degree or equivalent experience in a technical, creative writing, or illustrative field.
