Quality Engineer - Tier I Automotive Interiors

Our client, a major Tier I Automotive Supplier has an opportunity available immediately for a Quality Engineer to make an immediate impact on operations at their Tuscaloosa area facility. The Quality Engineer is responsible for maintaining a good Vendor/Customer relationship by consistently exceeding Customer expectations, throughout development and manufacturing of best-in-class product. All systems/criteria shall be developed, documented, and maintained to ensure consistent quality assurance. Participation in the development and maintenance of policies and procedures applicable to the financial operations of the plant in the areas of standard costs, expense budgets, profit planning, forecasting and appropriations is expected. Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

Reports quality and reliability data through sampling and documented evaluation.
Tracks all activities as prescribed in corporate and customer standards and procedures.
Develops and initiates appropriate engineering change procedures and communicates with other plants, suppliers, the customer and group office engineering.
Establishes program to evaluate precision and accuracy of engineering changes through testing, measurement and analytical methods and collects data on quality and reliability.
Conducts training sessions on Quality Assurance/Engineering activities.
Attends meetings as necessary. Travel is required.
Ensures the quality system is maintained in accordance with the TSS/BOS/VDA standards.
Develops or approves appropriate forms for data acquisition from inspection / audit operations. Reports on the performance of the quality system to management for review and as a basis for continuous improvement.
Monitors assembly operations to determine compliance with Customers' statistical process control requirements to maintain process within control limits .
Prepare PPAP submissions for Customer approval. Coordinate with the Materials and Operations departments to ensure effective, on-time, implementation.
Applies the preventive action process when potential issues/risks are identified. Has the authority to stop the production process if a quality or safety concern is noted.
Performs product audits.
Assists engineering with creating (and the upkeep thereof) Operator Description Sheets (ODS).
Prepare 8D and 5-Why Problem-Solving documents to ensure closure of internal or external issues.
Understand the full build processes which provide best-in-class products to Customers.
Read and interpret blue-prints or brownlines, verifying product compliance by utilizing various tools of measurement.
Promote safety and positive communications between the Quality Department, Operations Team, Corporate personnel and the Customer.
Performs other duties deemed necessary by the Quality Manager.
Reporting Relationship: Reports to the Quality Manager

Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree (B.S. or B.A.) from a four-year college or university in the fields of Mechanical Engineering or Statistics (or other technical related field). "Certified Quality Engineer" certification is preferred along with three (3) to five (5) years related experience or training: or equivalent combination of education and experience.
One (1) to Three (3) years automotive experience.
