Civil Engineer - Water Resources - 2 positions

This position will support the Phoenix Water Resources group, by working with a team of project and staff engineers to complete surface water related projects. Projects will involve complex hydrologic and hydraulic analysis/design on projects for public and private clientele throughout the southwestern US.

Job Duties:

Assist with hydrologic/hydraulic analysis and floodplain mapping for flood insurance studies
Assist in design of stormwater management facilities including: pipeline, detention/retention pond, and open channel.
Perform and document calculations supporting the individual design elements.
Draft reports that present and explain the deliverable.

The successful candidate's skills in surface water management will be heavily relied upon at the outset of employment. The position will allow the candidate to fine tune the application of these skills on projects of various scales.

The successful candidate will gain experience on projects including the analysis and/or design involving:

Hydrology for natural and urban watersheds
Hydraulic analysis for natural watercourses
Floodplain mapping
Open Channel design
Pipelines (gravity and pressure)
Erosion Protection

As the candidates design experience expands, additional duties will involve:

Report Writing
Cost Estimating
Task Management
Contracting

Additional opportunities exist to assist other teams within URS on stormwater management components.

Applicants must demonstrate excellent writing, analytical, communication and organization skills.

Successful applicant must also demonstrate the ability to work independently with little supervision and the flexibility to work as part of multidisciplinary groups.

This position requires knowledge of federal, state, county and municipal regulations for hydrologic/hydraulic analysis and design, with an emphasis on FEMA's regulations for floodplain analysis and mapping.

As the candidate becomes more knowledgeable with conducting analysis and design for various projects they can advance into a project management role on future projects, coordinating all aspects of the project. Additional opportunities in marketing will also arise as the candidates experience and client contact increases.
REQUIREMENTS
Project Level Engineer
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related Engineering field
Minimum of 4 years of experience in water resources engineering (hydrology/hydraulics for surface water)
PE Certification or ability to obtain PE license within 12 months.
HEC-1/HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, StormCAD, AutoCAD and/or Microstation, and ArcGIS
Experience in the fields of hydrology, hydraulics, floodplain management, drainage and flood control, storm drain system planning and design, erosion/sedimentation


Staff Level Engineer
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related Engineering field
0+ years experience
EIT or ability to obtain within 12 months
Experience with Microsoft products (Excel and Word) required. Knowledge of hydrologic and hydraulic theory and fundamentals.
