UNIX and LAN/Network Technician position

Ariel Technical Services, Inc. is a high technology consulting company, systems integrator and application developer providing custom solutions to the small business sector in Orange, Riverside, and LA counties. Ariel also provides remote access support to several out-of-state clients. These services include but are not limited to network installation/maintenance, website development, custom software application development, hardware and software troubleshooting, etc. Ariel’s customers primarily fall into the range of 5 to 50 computers on a site. Ariel’s customers typically do not employ their own IT personnel. Ariel provides IT expertise allowing its customers to focus on their own business development.

This is an entry level positon.

The ideal UNIX and LAN/Network Technician candidate will have between 1-2 years of hands-on Information Technology/Networking experience, UNIX experience, and a strong support and service background.

UNIX and LAN/Network Technician position Summary:
Provide LAN/WAN network, UNIX administration and programming, and user support by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Monitor and maintain network stability (LAN and UNIX)
• Provide on-site technical support
• Perform basic network troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose network problems
• Respond to user inquiries concerning system operation
• Provide users with network technical support
• Assist users with setup and minor maintenance of equipment
. Perform UNIX programming and administration tasks
REQUIREMENTS
SUNIX and LAN/Network Technician skills/Requirements:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
• Understanding of popular operating systems-including but not limited to:
o Windows XP Pro/2000 Pro
o Macintosh
o UNIX (basic skills only)
• Proficient in installing, configuring, and troubleshooting the above operating systems
• Thorough understanding of LAN architectures, cabling systems, TCP/IP addresses, Ethernet.
• Understanding of Microsoft Office and Web browsers
• Capability to troubleshoot PC hardware and software systems
• Experience with wireless networking
• Previous experience in front-line service oriented positions
• Previous telephone technical support experience desirable

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems or equivalent education/experience
