General Counsel

GENERAL COUNSEL
Join an Arizona-based aerospace manufacturing company as the General Counsel. This company has unique, patented technology and is known for value, versatility, and performance. Your skills and knowledge will be put into action as you address these key objectives:

Legal Management: The GC will have full responsibility for the legal and regulatory affairs of the company. The GC will draw upon his or her strong corporate law background to provide critical support and advice to other company executives. The GC must also assess the current legal practices in place and implement upgrades as needed to achieve a higher level of up-to-date legal sophistication.

Corporate Agreements: The GC will be heavily involved in negotiating, advising on and consummating corporate deals including joint ventures, acquisitions, and cross-border/international activities. The GC must have the experience, knowledge and capability to implement state-of-the-art commercial and corporate agreements for use in all business areas.

Coordinate Outside Counsel: The GC will select and oversee outside law firms that may be utilized for larger deals and international issues, ensuring that such outside counsel is appropriate and efficient.

Business Advisory Role: The GC will serve as the legal advisor to the business unit heads and upper-level management. The GC must take a proactive role with all deals and negotiations, collaborating with internal executives, making judgments on how to address issues, and recommending viable courses of action.

Regulatory Affairs: As the primary interface on legal issues with the FAA and international regulatory authorities, the GC must ensure that all agreements and negotiations comply with FAA, cross-border, foreign military, trade embargo, and ITAR regulations. The GC needs to also make certain that outside law firms comply with these regulations pertaining to certification of aircraft, reporting mishaps, STC issues, etc.

Parent Company Relations: Provide reports and interface with the parent company as needed.

The ideal candidate will have the following education, work history, knowledge, and skills:

Education: JD degree required.

Experience: 10+ years of corporate legal experience (can be combination of the public and private sectors), with at least 5 years experience in the public sector. Experience in the aerospace industry is preferred. Must have a proven track record in a corporate environment. Must have experience creating legal relationships with international joint ventures.

Knowledge and skills: Excellent at creating and defining a company’s internal and external legal and regulatory affairs. Able to be an advisor to business unit heads for major corporate decisions. Strong in strategic thinking and able to see the big picture. Can work collaboratively with an active investor-owner. Excellent communicator and able to improve internal and external legal communications. Must have sophisticated knowledge and problem-solving skills. Knowledge about regulatory affairs, including FAA and international regulations, is expected.
