GIS Analyst
The University of Arkansas at Little Rock Institute for Economic Advancement is seeking a GIS Analyst to work in the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Laboratory. This person will analyze GIS application needs by reviewing existing manually-maintained data, available digital data, and existing work procedures and determining procedures required to fulfill application requirements. He/she will perform moderate to complex GIS analytical and geoprocessing functions, including input, editing, manipulation, management, analysis, and output of spatial and tabular data sets.
The successful candidate will also have strong written and verbal communication skills, be detailed oriented, have strong problem solving skills, and possess the abilities to ensure that projects are completed on time. Since many projects require a team approach to solving problems, the person must be able to work well with others, receiving and giving orders and directions. Dealing with clients (private businesses, governmental agencies, nonprofits, and individuals) is also an important aspect of this position.
Required skills: Extensive experience with ArcGIS 9, Arc/Info, ArcIMS, GIS database management, remote sensing software, the use of 2002 TIGER/Line files and 2000 census data, Global Positioning Systems (GPS), spatial analysis, digitizing, and managing projects. Additional skills a plus: python scripting, GIS web applications using Java Script, SQL Server, Visual Studio.net, and SDE. Education requirements: Bachelor’s degree in geography, planning, computer science, engineering, GIS or related field, plus the equivalent of 4-6 years experience working with GIS databases. A Master’s degree is highly desirable.
