Transit Architect / Urban Designer

The candidate will be responsible for independently developing design and technical solutions, plans and reports for small to medium scale public transit related urban design and architectural projects, or for portions of larger projects. Candidate may serve as a Project Manager on selected projects while serving as a task area assignee on multiple projects.

The candidate must be able to develop and articulate project designs in written, verbal and graphic form and interface effectively with client and project stakeholders, including significant involvement in public presentations and group facilitation. The candidate will coordinate detailed research and analysis of site conditions, existing planning & zoning, applicable codes and standards, user needs, and design precedents. Other duties will include preparation of design and construction drawings, technical specifications, and bid documents; site visits to review construction of projects; and preparation of scopes of work, fee proposals, and responses to RFP’s. As a Project Manager or task area assignee, the candidate may oversee the work of less experienced staff.

Although general design experience in transportation projects is an acceptable minimum qualification for this position, the ideal candidate will have architectural and urban design experience in transit categories such as Commuter Rail, Light Rail Transit (LRT), and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT). Also advantageous is experience in transit station area planning and urban design, including conceptual planning of transit oriented development (TOD) projects.

Candidates should be prepared to present a portfolio of design examples illustrating abilities in conceptual architectural and urban design, and to provide professional references upon request.
REQUIREMENTS
•Professional degree in Architecture (e.g. B.Arch, M.Arch)
•Minimum of 4 years progressive architectural experience on transportation-related projects, including Design Development and Final Design
•Architectural CAD experience (e.g, AutoCad, Microstation)
•Strong verbal and written communication skills
•Professional registration as an Architect (RA) is required for this position. California registration is preferred but not required.
