Maintenance and Construction Worker

The Riverside County Waste Management Department is a leader in the Landfill industry. The Maintenance and Construction Worker performs a variety of field maintenance or construction work; to operate trucks and other light equipment on maintenance or construction projects; and to do other work as required. This position requires the performance of a variety of semi-skilled tasks, and often includes the operation of the less complex and smaller motorized equipment such as two-axle or three-axle trucks and water spray trucks, chippers, and compressors as an incidental part of the work assignment. Functions in which this work is performed include road construction and maintenance, refuse disposal site operations, excavations, fence building, weed abatement, signing, rodent control, and tree trimming.
Examples Of Essential Duties:
• Constructs and maintains roads, fencing, drainage channels and culverts.

• Performs maintenance work at refuse disposal sites; sprays and cuts weeds; patches holes in black top roads; clears roads, channels, and other facilities of storm debris and damage.

• Installs signs; chops and clears brush; mixes and pours concrete; erects traffic and street signs.

• Uses a variety of hand and power tools; operates dump trucks to load, haul and deliver a variety of debris and materials; operates water spray trucks, and other light motorized equipment.
REQUIREMENTS
Experience: One year of experience in construction work or field maintenance work (such as roads, flood control facilities, refuse sites, public works projects or closely related work) which required operation of light trucks and related construction equipment.
